Sonoma Valley, California

There is a great diversity in the wines grown in Sonoma Valley, and most vineyards offer self-guided vineyard tours. While many charge a minimal fee for wine tastings, if you decide to buy a bottle often your fees are returned. It will probably take you a whole day to explore the San Juan de Dios Market that is billed as the largest in the world.

While getting in to look at the food, leather goods, jewelry, Mexican blankets and more is free, you will not want to leave without buying an armload of goodies. Guadalajara is located within an hour of the Tequila Valley where the iconic drink was first made. At least four distilleries still make tequila using time-honored techniques. Columbia, South Carolina

Columbia, South Carolina, is a beautiful April vacation destination. Over 129 places are listed on the National Register of Historic Landmarks including five National Historic Landmarks. The Riverbanks Gardens has been named one of the 20 best gardens in the United States, and spring is the perfect time to visit it along with the nearby zoo. Another beautiful garden in Columbia is located at the Robert Mills House that was constructed in the 1820s.

Try to plan your trip so that the ancient dogwood trees and the azaleas will be in bloom. Bring your bike along for a beautiful ride to Lake Murray Dam as April should be a great month to enjoy a picnic there. After you have seen the trees, there are plenty of free things to do in Washington D.C. including visiting over 13 free museums, seeing the monuments on the National Mall and listening to lions roar at the National Zoo.
