I saw this quote recently and it made a ton of sense to me.
Let’s face it, it’s not social media’s fault, it’s your fault.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m well aware of how intentionally addicting social media is.
I’m well aware of the fact that social media sites and apps are for profit ventures.
I’m well aware of that fact that the entire purpose of social media sites are to keep you on their platforms as long as possible.
But that doesn’t excuse the content people put on there, period.
Social media may be “bad” from an addictive perspective but ultimately it is we who sign up.
It is we who are controlling the narrative on there.
It is us who hit the like and follow buttons.
It is we who choose to pay attention to all the vitriol on these platforms.
And it is we who spit out whatever bullshit we choose to spit out.
You can blame social media for all the problems in your life but social media isn’t the full problem, you are.
Social media is simply amplifying what people already feel or have already felt. That’s the real issue, folks.
Which is to say the simple truth is that you need to take ownership, period.
You are responsible for what you say and what you do.
If you can’t take that responsibility then that’s your problem and the consequences that may come your way are created by you, and you only.
I have my opinions on cancel culture and in a nutshell I do think we’re living in a society that’s a bit too sensitive but remember kids, YOU are the only one posting, liking, and commenting.
Unless your account is hacked, that’s you doing these things and you need to own up to it.
