No Quality of Work Without a Quality of Life

I recently saw this quote by Adam Grant and I just had to talk about it today.

“You don’t get quality of work when people are struggling with quality of life.”

If this doesn’t hit home to you then honestly I don’t know what does.

You can go pretty far running on steam in a job you don’t like.

In fact you can go years with a career you can’t stand.

If your quality of life is solid, then it’ll be tolerable for a ton of time.

But if you don’t have a solid quality of life, I don’t care how awesome your job is, it’s going to catch up with you eventually.

And when it does it’s going to feel like a mountain landing on the top of your head.

Honestly I’d take a shitty job with a great quality of life over my dream job with a shitty quality of life.

One of the things I was great at when I was younger was simply not tolerating the things I didn’t want to do.

The older I’ve gotten that better I’ve become at this.

Also, since I’ve created more freedom for myself it’s even easier to say no.

Bottom line?  Quality of life trumps everything and if it’s not integrated into your career in some way, you’ll suffer for it eventually.
