If you haven’t heard of Jack Daniels, or have never tried Jack Daniels before, for that matter, you may have been living under a rock for the majority of your life. This whiskey brand is, in fact, the top selling whiskey throughout the entire globe, and has made a name for itself over the course of its history. However, we are sure that many people didn’t know that the Jack Daniels headquarter is located in Moore county in Tennessee, which is also a dry county in the United States. For those that don’t know, a ‘dry’ county means that alcohol cannot be sold or distributed in stores or other restaurants in that county. We’re sure many had absolutely no clue that there were still areas in the nation where liquor cannot be sold or distributed, so we are here to give you a bit of info on the matter.
Why Go Dry?
Basically, a dry county is a county that has been told by the government that they cannot sell or distribute any alcoholic beverages. Regardless, we are sure many of you are scratching your heads, thinking, “how is this possible if the 21st Amendment repealed the Prohibition back in the day?” Well, with that amendment taking effect, it allowed for separate state and local governments to make their own set of rules regarding the distribution of alcohol after that time. Thus, we now have some dry counties that pop up in our nation, most of which are located in the Southern states of the country. However, it is important to realize that just because you may be located in a dry county, that doesn’t mean that you can’t consume alcohol at all in that area; It just means that you will have to go to a different county near your area to find the beverages to purchase.
The Jack Daniels Headquarters
As we said before, the Jack Daniels head distillery is located in Moore County in Tennessee, which is considered one of the few dry counties in the nation. Now, it is important to realize that just because they are located in a dry county, it does not mean that they can’t distill the whiskey there; It just means that the company is not allowed to distribute and sell their Tennessee whiskey in that county of the state and of the country. There has also been a state law that has been initiated within Tennessee law that states that any distillery located in any county is allowed to sell one commemorative product that they produce, regardless of what jurisdictions have been set prior. This means that it is still possible for the Tennessee whiskey, and the fans of it living in Moore county, can still purchase their own bit of Jack Daniels.
It may seem strange that the top selling whiskey brand in the world would be located in the heart of a dry county in the United States, but it is clear to see that it hasn’t stopped them, and won’t stop them any time soon.
