How Do You Come Up With So Many Content Ideas?

I started writing for my own website in 2007.  It grew pretty quickly to the point where I quit my full time job in 2008.

One of the reasons my site took off was because I was able to come up with some unique articles.

For better or for worse you could say I was one of the early adopters of “lists” on the internet.

You know, articles like “10 Things You Didn’t Know about” or “The 20 Best Movies in the 21st Century” etc etc.

But one thing I was always good at was taking that concept and stretching it as far as it could go.

It wasn’t just thinking of The Best Movies of the 21st Century.  It was thinking of

  • The Best Action Movies
  • The Best Horror Movies
  • The Best Adventure Movies
  • The Best Action Movies
  • The Best Drama Movies
  • The Best Action Actors of the 60s, 70s, 80s, etc
  • The Best Horror Movie Actors of the 60s, 70s, 80s, etc etc
  • The Best Movie Good Guys, Bad Guys of the 60s, 70s, 80s.

I can literally do this 1000 times over.

I’ve always felt one of the best ways to create content is to take an already popular subject but put millions of twists on it.

I don’t try to reinvent the wheel with regard to what’s popular but I do try to spin in it a way people haven’t heard of.

So let’s say a politician is trending right now.

For an entertainment site I might write an article called “Five Actors Who Could Play “X Politician” in a Movie

For a home and garden site I might write “How “X Politician” Would Decorate His House, Lawn, Kitchen, Basement, Bedroom, etc etc”

It’s endless.  If you’re having trouble with content, use this concept and it should help.
