Amazing Ron Swanson Statue Found In Philadelphia

Ron Swanson Statue

After reading this news, I’ve never been so proud to say that I’m from Philadelphia. A Reddit user, tmcdizzle827, posted a photo to the infamous website of a statue at the Walnut Street Theater in Philadelphia, a statue that remarkably looks exactly like Nick Offerman, aka Mr. Ron Swanson from NBC’s Parks and Recreation.

It truly is absurd how much this statue looks like Ron Swanson, from the hair to the mustache to even the expression on his face, which is something I’m pretty sure Ron does at least once in every episode of Parks and Rec. It turns out, though, that this isn’t a specially sculpted statue that expresses an artist’s love for Pawnee’s greatest citizen, one of television’s greatest characters, and the world’s manliest man. No, sadly this statue is actually of legendary Philadelphia actor Edwin Forrest, who (a quick Google search tells me) was a 19th century Shakespearean actor, whose “feud with British actor William Charles Macready helped spark the deadly Astor Place Riot of 1849.” I’m not even going to try and look up what that is but it sounds something like this.

Even though the statue wasn’t purposely made in Ron Swanson’s image, the sheer fact that it looks exactly like him is enough for me to now christen it as the “Ron Swanson Statue of Philadelphia.” For me, this takes the place of the Rocky statue – there’s just no debate about that. The only statue that comes anywhere close to beating it for me is the Harry Kalas one at Citizens Bank Park.

One day soon, I’m going to get a turkey leg, a bunch of fried eggs, and some extra crispy bacon and eat them all, before washing them down with some scotch, right in front of this statue. I can only hope that Ron would approve.
