Since he made his debut in wrestling in 1989, Rey Mysterio has become one of the most exciting contenders on the wrestling circuit. Born as Oscar Gutierrez in Chula Vista, California, on December 11, 1974, this wrestler is well known for his high-flying Lucha Libre style of wrestling. He has won multiple titles throughout his career and has become one of the most talked about stars in wrestling. After returning to wrestling to appear in a one-off match at the 2018 Royal Rumble, it has sparked rumors that Rey Mysterio is potentially making an official comeback to the ring. This is something that the wrestler has not yet confirmed, but it is definitely something that his fans would love to see happen. Although there have been many fantastic matches in his career, here are five of the best Rey Mysterio moments in his career.

5. Royal Rumble Match Return in 2018

When Rey Mysterio returned for the Royal Rumble Match in 2018, it was one of his best career moments as it was so unexpected. As the Royal Rumble Match of 2006 was one of his career highlights, it made sense to use another Royal Rumble match to make his surprise entrance. You can hear the surprise and excitement in the commentator’s voices when he unexpectedly enters the ring and the crowd erupts into cheers. It was a moment that delighted his fans.

4. WWE Cruiserweight Champion 1996

Rey Mysterio was in the Cruiserweight division from 1996 to 1999. In his very first year in this division, he won the title. His final match was against Malenko in the WCW Monday Nitro aired on July 8, 1996. This was one of his most successful moments while in this division. He retained the title for three months until Halloween Havoc.

3. WWE Championship Tournament 2011 vs The Miz

Another highlight of Rey Mysterio’s Career was winning the World Wrestling Entertainment Championship Tournament of 2011. He had already defeated Dolph Ziggler in the quarterfinals followed by R-Truth in the semi-finals. He went on to win the final match against The Miz to take the title. This was one of his greatest achievements.

2. Cagey Debut

When Rey Mysterio made his entrance into a cage for his Smackdown debut in 2002, fans loved seeing him wrestle in this new environment. It was an opportunity for him to show off his best moves and the cage around the ring allowed him to thrown in a few new maneuvers.

1. WWE Heavyweight Championship 2006

In 2006, Rey Mysterio competed against Randy Orton in the WWE Heavyweight Championship and won. This was a triple threat match that took place on April 2, 2006. As Rey Mysterio was not a heavyweight, the championship was referred to simply as the ‘World Championship’. That doesn’t take away from the fact that it was Mysterio who won the title following an exciting and dramatic match in the ring.
