Yoenis Cespedes Makes Another Amazing Throw Against the Angels

During last night’s game between the Oakland A’s and the Los Angeles Angels, left fielder Yoenis Cespedes got to show off his arm again by throwing out Howie Kendrick at the plate after Mike Trout hit a single to left. Angels’ coach Mike Scioscia went out to argue the initial call, but after reviewing the play, the umpires confirmed that the original ruling on the field was correct.

There were two amazing parts about this throw from Cespedes. First, he bobbled the ball before getting to it out in left but was still able to recover well enough to get Kendrick out at home. And second, the main reason why Kendrick was out was because Cespedes’ throw literally stayed in the air the entire time until it reached the A’s catcher. Not one bounce or two – it was all air until it met Derek Norris’s catcher’s mit.

And the funniest thing about this play from last night is that this isn’t the first time that Cespedes has thrown out an Angels’ player at home this season. During the last series in which the two teams played each other at the end of May, Cespedes threw out two Angels in a single inning. Between what happened in that game and during last night’s matchup, it’s pretty understandable (not to mention hilarious) that the Angels’ Twitter page sent out this tweet immediately following Cespedes’s throw to the plate:

Cespedes leads the majors with eight outfield assists. It seems like he’s going to have a big year this season. Check out his throw from last night’s game.
