Will Ferrell Challenges Lars Ulrich to a Drum-off

After having a drum-off with supposed doppleganger Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer, Chad Smith, Will Ferrell is now calling out a new competitor: Metallica’s Lars Ulrich. Ferrell believes that Ulrich looks just as similar to him as Smith does. “Lars gets [angry] because he gets mistaken for both me and Chad Smith,” Ferrell told Spin recently. “He can settle that score now, too.” Smith added, “There it is. The gauntlet is down.”

Smith and Ferrell dealt with their “feud”  last month on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon after Ferrell had been told by a fan on Reddit that he supposedly looked like the Red Hot Chili Peppers rocker. The pair’s epic drum-off ended with Ferrell banging on the cowbell again (which was even more fitting with Fallon also in attendance) before the rest of the Red Hot Chili Peppers joined the stage to perform, with Ferrell continuing to keep the beat.

During a recent interview together, both Ferrell and Smith commented on what they thought about EDM, though. “I gotta give them credit for guys who can make hundreds of thousands of dollars for literally pushing a button,” Ferrell said. Smith followed that up, saying, “That’s a good gig, you know? There’s not a lot overhead. There’s no checked luggage. Just carry on your computer, turn it on, push a button, good to go.”

The pair also discussed Weezer drummer Pat Wilson amazingly catching a Frisbee mid-set while not missing a beat. “Frisbees? I’ve seen Will catch ninja stars,” Smith said. “I once caught a marlin while I was drumming,” Ferrell said. “We once had a drum-off on the deck of a boat. And I snagged a marlin right out of the air.”

Hopefully, if Ulrich ends up battling both Smith and Ferrell, they all drum together on a boat. Even if no marlins show up, maybe a Frisbee could make an appearance. Or even a certain cowbell could get involved again.
