Okay, so I know I’ve been telling you guys every chance I get in every article I write to go see X-Men: Days of Future Past because it’s such an awesome movie. Well, now, the Internet, as it typically does, has done something even more awesome and calculated the cost of all of the vehicular damage caused by the X-Men throughout all of the films in the series, and as you would probably assume, it’s a pretty penny.
What shocked me first about this list was how comparable Professor X and Magneto were in the cost of damage that they caused, but the explanation about Xavier destroying the Russian cruiser back in First Class makes complete sense. The only other vehicle comparable to that on this list is the X-Jet, which (again, as the list describes) Jean Grey disintegrated when she was Phoenix back in X-Men: The Last Stand (aka the X-Men movie no one likes to talk about).
Ultimately, what I find so cool about this list is the fact that it puts the literal, physical damage caused by superheroes, in an attempt to save the world, into realistic terms. Everyone always jokes about how in every Marvel movie New York is destroyed (but seriously, between what happens to NYC during The Avengers and The Amazing Spider-Man films, you’d think people would just move) or how Metropolis was in total ruins by the end of Man of Steel, but we always just guess that it would cost the city a zillion dollars to repair, without any actual numerical figures. I’m one of the people who has always said that he wished superheroes were real, but these numbers puts into perspective just how much the U.S. government would be paying if that were in the case – and it would not be good.
