Ten Celebrities You Didn’t Know Were Adopted

2nd CGDC Annual Meeting 2012 - Day 3

Bill Clinton

The former United States president was sent to live with his maternal grandparents (who then adopted him) when he was a child, by his mother, Virgina Dell Cassidy, after his father, William Jefferson Blythe, Jr., passed away. Clinton’s grandparents owned a small grocery store, where they sold goods to all races, even though the South was greatly segregated during this time. When he was fifteen years old, Clinton adopted the surname of “Clinton” from his stepfather as a sign of respect and gratitude. Bill Clinton is only the second president in U.S. history to be adopted. The other president is Gerald Ford.
