President Obama Takes a Suprise Walk and Films It

Obama Walk

What would you do if you were on the street, going through your typical, every day routine, and the President of the United States just happened to walk up to you and say hello? Well, for some people in Washington D.C. that was there reality yesterday, as President Obama decided to take a surprise walk in the nice spring weather. And of course, it was filmed and posted on the White House’s YouTube page (which I didn’t even know existed until today).

Politics aside, no matter what your views are, it’s really cool to see the president actually being a regular guy for once, giving special White House M&M’s to two little girls and being asked, “Are you real?” by one stunned woman. When pretty much every second of news coverage, whether it’s on CNN, Fox News, or MSNBC, is about how terrible the economy is, how screwed the earth is because of global warming, or something else that is just insanely negative, it’s nice to catch a glimpse of something a little more happy and fun and to see how it can unite people together as Americans.

Additionally, videos like this show just how far America has come with how our politicians, specifically our president, can connect with us. FDR had his fireside chats and there will always be the State of the Union Address. However, social media, platforms like Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram, are allowing U.S. citizens to see another side of their government, a more personal, intimate side.

Whether you want to take the positive, more optimistic approach and look at videos like this as fun, innovative forms of communication, or take the opposite stance and say that they’re just another way that the government is trying to infiltrate our lives and manipulate us through propaganda, it’s totally up to you. Everyone can check out the video below and decide what they think. As for what I think of it all? Well, let’s just say I always do my best to be an eternal optimist, no matter what anyone else says.
