Mick Jagger Makes Fun of Himself in Promotional Video for Monty Python

The Rolling Stones Perform At The du Arena, Yes Island

There have been a lot of “old people” jokes made about The Rolling Stones over the years, but I’m not sure if any one one of them have come straight from the mouth of Mick Jagger. In a new promotional video for the British comedy group, Monty Python, Mick Jagger makes fun of himself and the Stones for their old age, even as they continue to tour the world, performing in front of millions of people.

In the video, Mick Jagger can’t come to grips with why people would want to still go see the Mighty Python after all these years. When he’s told about the groups final performances, Mick Jagger asks, “Who wants to see that again really?” He calls the group “a bunch of wrinkly old men trying to relive their youth and make a bunch of money,” stating that “back in the 70s,” they were “fantastic” but that now “we’ve seen it all before.”

The video is a very funny, self-aware way of promoting the Mighty Python’s final few reunion shows. The comedy group will be performing ten shows at the 02 in London, the last of which will be on July 20th, as their final farewell to their fans, stating that these will be the last time that they perform together as a group ever.

Coincidentally, this video also hits the web just as Kirk Hammet of Metallica was quoted, stating that he doesn’t believe that the band will have the ability to continue to play into their 70s like The Rolling Stones.

“I don’t know if we can do what we can do when we’re in our 70s, because playing one of our songs is equal to eight Stones songs in terms of physical energy and intensity,” Hammet said. “Maybe we’ll work out a model that enables us to go for another 20 years, but I personally think we have another 10. Maybe that’s one album, maybe that’s two albums, I don’t know.”

Whether you’re a fan of The Rolling Stones or not, there’s no denying how great this video is and how appreciated Mick Jagger’s self-aware sense of humor is today when too many celebrities take themselves way too seriously. Watch the video for yourself below.
