Just the other day, we told you about Will Ferrell and Chad Smith challenging Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich to a drum-off. Well, it hasn’t taken long for Ulrich to respond. His answer: Bring. It. On.
After their epic drum-off on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon back in May, where Ferrell and Smith, drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, raised $300,000 for Cancer for College and Little Kids Rock, the two men recently did an interview with SPIN. During the interview, Ferrell said that Ulrich had an “eerily similar” appearance to him and Smith.
“Lars gets [angry] because he gets mistaken for both me and Chad Smith,” Ferrell said. “He can settle that score now, too.”
Ulrich has now taken his opportunity to “settle that score” and accepted the drum-off challenge. Here’s what he had to say in an exclusive statement to SPIN:
It was a little lonely on the sidelines during the first drum-off, given the somewhat forced nature of the lookalike element between Chad Smith and Will Ferrell, when I’m TRULY the one carrying that dead-ringer gene around! As for any further drum-offs, I’m sure that with a bit of practice, I could give Chad a run for his money. But Will? That’s a whole different story. He rules the “bad-ass drummer universe.” I mean, you’re talking about a guy who’s so next level, actually, so beyond next level, that he may just be completely unreachable! That said, I’m definitely up for the challenge…Bring it on!!!
Not long after Ulrch released his statement, Smith took to Facebook to respond, saying “Two pieces of advice for Lars: Leave the double bass drums at home and load up on cowbells!”
Now that the drum-off is definitely on, I still propose that that the three guys duke it out on a boat. I mean, we got to give Ferrell the chance to catch one of those marlins that he’s famous for catching while drumming.
