First Cast Photo and Release Date for N.W.A. Movie

Straight Outta Compton 2

The first cast photo has surfaced for the N.W.A. movie, Straight Outta Compton, and the film has also gotten a release date. According to Universal, the biopic based on the revolutionary LA-based rap group of Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and Eazy-E will hit theaters on August 14, 2015.

With the release date, we also got to see who will be playing the three main characters of the movie. Corey Hawkins will be playing Dr.Dre, Jason Mitchell will be giving his portrayal of Eazy-E, and O’Shea Jackson Jr.  – who is the real life son of Ice Cube, whose actual name is O’Shea Jackson – will be starring in the film as his father. Ice Cube himself tweeted a picture of the three main cast members with him, Dr. Dre, and the director of Straight Outta Compton, F. Gary Gray (who has directed films like Friday and The Italian Job), saying “#StraightOuttaCompton coming 8/14/15.” The parts for the two final members of the group, MC Ren and DJ Yella, have not yet been cast.

As stated before, Straight Outta Compton will be directed by Gray and is written by the team of Andrea Berloff, Alan Weknus, and S. Leigh Savidge, a rather inexperienced writing staff whose most major credit is World Trade Center, which Berloff wrote the script for herself. Both Dr. Dre and Ice Cube will also be serving as producers on the film, along with Matt Alvarez and Tomica Wood-Wright, who is the widow of Eazy-E.

Straight Outta Compton is still in pre-production right now, but no matter how the film turns out, it will be very interesting to see how successful it is at the box office next summer. Here’s a look at the full cast photo.
