Brad Paisley Takes Selfie With Westboro Baptist Church Outside of Concert

Paisley 2

Outside of his concert in Kansas on June 1st, country star Brad Paisley dealt with the radical, fanatical, and incredibly detestable Westboro Baptist Church in a very funny and amusing way – he took a selfie with them. Paisley took the photo before playing his show that night and used Twitter to post it, telling his fans, “Westboro Baptist Selfie!! Hopefully they can hear the show out here. We’ll play loud.”

This type of outspoken, humorous behavior is exactly the type of approach Paisley takes with his music. He’s not one to make grand political stances on television or give reporters long quotes about what he thinks about the state of American culture at the moment. However, much of Paisley’s music, from songs like “American Saturday Night” to “Those Crazy Christians,” directly deals with topics or issues that are present in our country right now in a funny, somewhat less serious way.

I’ve been a big fan of Paisley for a long time. (I’m a big country music fan, especially of Paisley’s work, and more importantly, he just seems like a really cool and funny guy whenever he hosts the CMAs with Carrie Underwood.) His posting of this photo with the caption that he used just makes me like him even more, and I hope it opens minds of a lot of people, if not to country music itself, to the messages that many artists, like Brad Paisley, are trying to spread.

Despite what some people think, country music is not entirely filled with overly conservative rednecks who thinks that Obama wasn’t born in this country. There’s a great deal of intelligent, progressive, and talented performers in the industry, and people should open their eyes (and ears) to them.
