80s Pump Up Singer John Parr (The Dude Who Sang St. Elmo’s Fire)

You know what’s funny about one hit wonder types?  Depending on the song, they never ever leave your conscious.  Like if it’s a song you love you somehow develop a fixation on the artist and yet you never listen to any of their other music.  This is how I feel about John Parr.  He’s the guy who sang one of the best pump up 80s songs of all time:  St. Elmo’s Fire (Man in Motion).  He also had a number one hit in the US called “Naughty Naughty.”  And if any of you are super fans you should be familiar with the classic 80s gymnastics movie “American Anthem.”  Parr penned the song “Two Hearts” which is actually a really good song.

Bottom line is that I just wanted to take a moment to pay my respects to a guy who gets people completely geeked up every single time “Man in Motion” is on the radio.  It’s just a fantastic song that makes you want to do things.  And while I couldn’t tell you the names of any of the English singer’s songs (other than the three I mentioned) it doesn’t matter.  Parr will always have a place in 80s greatness and his songs (the ones I know) will never, ever get old to me.

So without further interruption, let’s get a little pump on this morning with “St. Elmo’s Fire.”
