While Curt Schilling’s bloody sock proved his strength during the 2004 playoffs, Robin Roberts showed off his toughness every day that he went out and pitched. Roberts, who played from 1948 to 1966, was a part of baseball before pitchers were restricted by role titles and pitch counts. He, at one point, pitched 28 complete games in a row, and in 1953, he threw over 346 innings. They can’t teach toughness like that anymore today. Robin Roberts’ arm strength was most definitely uncoached.
