Whatever Happened to Mark Ratner from Fast Times at Ridgemont High?

Published by under Whatever Happened To

Brian Backer

You all know him. You all must have been annoyed with him. Here he is, Brian Backer, the guy that played loser Mark Ratner in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. How many times did you want to punch this guy in the face in that movie? He’s the every day loser. Too sensitive, too much of a wuss, no balls.

Somehow he winds up with Stacy, but of course at the end of the movie you see the “they still haven’t done it” caption. What a pathetic character. And after having seen Police Academy 4 for the 16th time it made me wonder what Backer’s been up to…

Amazingly enough this guy is 52 years old now. And how about this? He won a Tony award in 1981. Well way to go Brian!

Two things that were very funny to me. One, he directed an episode of “Growing Pains” in 1991 which means he must have said “Boner” 50 times and two, he played a doctor in the movie Loser in 2000. Pretty appropriate movie title for him don’t you think? 2000 was the last year I could find of him doing anything. I think he’s a director now.

However, I’m also guessing at present he sits at home and masturbates to the “You know how cute I always thought you were” Phoebe Cates scene more than anyone on the planet.

Whatever Happened To “Flounder” from Animal House?

Published by under Whatever Happened To

Stephen Furst Stephen Furst

Remember the fun, portly, and gullible “Flounder?” from Animal House? How could we forget? Well, his real name is Stephen Furst and he’s still a little portly, but the man’s actually had a nice career for himself.

I’m not saying the guy’s been an Oscar winner but he’s done plenty of voice overs, directed some television shows, and currently hosts a webcast.

Although I’m sure we’ll all remember him as Flounder (unless you’re a sci-fi dork and say “oh yeah that’s the guy from Babylon 5 who played Vir Cotto!”)

Whatever Happened to The Bad Guy from Karate Kid 2?

Published by under Whatever Happened To

Yuji Okumoto Yuji Okumoto

His name is Yuji Okumoto and for the record this guy is the absolute man. I’ll never forget seeing Karate Kid 2 and being so devastated when he kept picking on poor Daniel San.

Actually wait, it was pretty damned funny now that you think about it. And come on! Like Ralph Macchio could kick this guy’s ass? Yuji was the man back then. Totally ripped and he wore incredible button downs and slacks.

Anyway, Yuji’s actually been in lots of movies. If you haven’t seen Aloha Summer I highly recommend it. Currently Yuji still acts, is a restaurant owner and word is, he’s a great guy.

Whatever Happened to Long Duk Dong?

Published by under Whatever Happened To

Gedde Watanabe Gedde Watanabe

It’s amazing how time flies. The same guy that uttered the unforgettable line “What’s Happenin’ Hot Stuff?” is now 53 years old. His name? Gedde Watanabe. “Where is my automobile?” Man I loved the Donger.

As I watched 16 Candles for the 515th time I realized that the movie absolutely sucks save for the Donger and Anthony Michael Hall’s character, “The Geek.” Yes that’s right, we never found out his name.

So what is Watanabe up to now? He’s still going strong as an actor. You may have even caught him as recently as a few months ago in Forgetting Sarah Marshall as a hotel manager. Here’s something I totally forgot. He was in an episode of Seinfeld in 1996. How about that?

I miss the Donger. Donger needs food.

Whatever Happened To Arsenio Hall?

Published by under Whatever Happened To

Arsenio Hall Arsenio Hall

Whoo Whoo Whoo Whoo! Remember that? Seriously, that might have been one of the most popular chants of all time. So what the hell ever happened to Arsenio Hall? I used to love this guy.

Who could forget him in Coming to America or his very popular talk show? Hall was awesome back then. I don’t know what’s changed but the last I heard or saw of him was back in 2004.

Hall made a cameo appearance as himself in Chappelle’s Show when Dave was imagining “what Arsenio is doing right now” in a dinner scene. It showed Hall at a wine party eating some cheese and saying, “Damn! That’s some good-ass cheese!” After which, Hall started punching and slapping people for not telling him about the apparently delicious cheese.

What’s he up to now? As of 2008, Hall is a guest co-host on Wednesday evenings on the Tim Conway Jr. radio show on 97.1 KLSX in Los Angeles.

That’s a long way from being Reverend Brown.

Look-Alikes and a Whatever Happened To Frankie Muniz?

Published by under Look-Alikes,Whatever Happened To

Frankie Muniz Frankie Muniz

This is one of the best look-alikes of all time. Remember that little dude in the movie Legend with the really weird voice? He was some dwarf named Honeythorn Gump who guided Tom Cruise through his journey. The guy’s real name is David Bennent. Bennent never grew past 5 feet in real life and I think he’s still acting.

And then you have Frankie Muniz, beloved star of Malcolm in the Middle and a bunch of kids movies. I never understood the allure of Muniz. He’s kind of a shrimpy scary looking guy. But now I know. It’s the dwarfy Honeythorn Gump thing. Kids like imaginary forest characters and Muniz certainly fits that bill.

What’s Muniz up to now? The little fella, aged 23, is a professional car racer. He also writes and does a little producing. He plans to come back to acting which I think will be….never.

Here’s more proof that Muniz is a reincarnated Gump

Whatever Happened to Parker from Parker Lewis Can’t Lose?

Published by under Whatever Happened To

Corin Nemec Corin Nemec

From tough times in high school to posing with super uber dorks, Corin Nemec has traveled far and wide in the acting universe. He started off as a baby-faced teen causing trouble in his little high school to playing Jonas Quinn in Stargate.

But what you might not know about Nemec is that he played an itty bitty kid Nick Papdopolis on Webster. So what’s he doing now?

Oh just joining up with the ever growing number of psychos in the Church of Scientology and still doing television. I’d say I wish you the best Corin, but I’m not sure I’m evolved enough to do so.

Whatever Happened to Buddy from Just One of the Guys?

Published by under Whatever Happened To

Billy Jayne Billy Jayne

Perhaps one of my favorite characters of all time, Buddy, was the sex obsessed brother in the cult 1985 classic Just one of the Guys. But whatever happened to Billy Jayne, the guy who played him?

If any of you ever watched “Parker Lewis Can’t Lose” you might remember him as one of the co-stars. This was basically right before his boyish looks began to disappear. Some men age well. And some men…well, they just age.

Jayne went through a bit of a chubby stage, probably because he realized his acting days were over. He was last seen in 2003 on the Bernic Mac show, but now has a killer Myspace Profile! His boyish looks are back and he’s tearing up the stage.

Looks like he’s in a band these days and most recently he played for some soldiers in Iraq. They must have been like “who the hell is this guy? Oh wait, he’s the dude that called his dick “Spike” in that movie! Nice!”

Whatever Happened to Buddy Revell from Three O’Clock High?

Published by under Whatever Happened To

Richard Tyson Richard Tyson

For all of you “tweeners” out there who simply don’t understand fine cinema that involves people other than Hanna Montana, let me point you to a classic that’s right up there with your Breakfast Clubs and Sixteen Candles of the world:

Three O’Clock High is the story of a weenie who must overcome a bully who he is set to fight at 3:00PM after school. It is the true story of triumph, courage and the desire for greatness. But who played the bully? His name is Richard Tyson and I think Buddy Revell is one of the best characters of all time.

Since then? You might remember him as the bad guy in Kindergarten Cop and the crazy cop in Something About Mary. Tyson remains an actor and I’m still waiting on Four O’Clock High: “He Put a Kick me Sign on My back”

Love this guy
