A Georgia congressman who attacked the theory of evolution found himself with an unlikely opponent in Tuesday’s U.S. election, when 4,000 voters in one county cast write-in ballots for the 19th century father of evolution, British naturalist Charles Darwin.

In a September 27 speech, Paul Broun, a physician and member of the U.S. House of Representatives Science, Space and Technology Committee, called evolution and the Big Bang Theory, “lies straight from the pit of hell.”

Since Broun, a Republican, had no opposition in the general election, a University of Georgia plant biology professor, Jim Leebens-Mack, and others started a write-in campaign for Darwin, the father of the theory of evolution.

I love these right wing extremist. “Lies straight from the pit of hell”. Dude have a orange soda and just chill for a minute. You’re making me nervous. By the way, as a former Biology major, I definitely would have voted for Darwin.

What the American public usually fails to realize about politics is that half the time they are voting, the policies they vote for can hurt them more than help them.  In fact, that’s the job of a politician.  To make you believe in something that you think is good for you when it might not help you at all.   I mean sure, sometimes policies help but that’s not my point.  The point is that it’s all a big sales act.   And most of the time we’re being sold a bill of goods when we have no clue what’s actually going on.

And for the most part, Americans don’t really follow politics anyway.  So what’s the actual basis for voting if you don’t know the issues?  Do you just not vote?  I don’t think that’s the answer.   But if you do vote I do think there are some criteria outside of politics you should look for….

A while back I did a post on political quotes.   I want to assure all of you that this is not a political site.  However, after Memorial Day is when things start to heat up in the political circles.  And you know that tensions are going to be high.  There’s going to be tons of bickering.  Plenty of finger pointing.  And if I were to take a guess, flat out disgusting behavior.  Should be pretty entertaining to say the least.

There’s just something very funny about watching a famous person dance.  Clearly that’s why Dancing with the Stars is such a famous show.   Call me crazy but I think the next big hit might very well be “Singing with the Stars.”   I have a feeling the public would eat that up.

In the meantime though, we shall keep reveling in the embarrassment that is celebrities dancing.  And now that election time is here and hype for the run of 2012 is getting high, politicians dancing seems like a fun topic.

In many respects the life of a politician is similar to that of an actor.  I mean think about.  These guys and gals are really just putting on a show when they’re in public.  It’s their job to be animated and to pump us up to be psyched about the policies and ideals they try to enforce.

Granted some of them have really tough jobs behind the curtain and for that it’s certainly not like acting.  But for the most part, when you see a politician out making an appearance it’s about as real as a commercial.

This is why I always find that politics is a load of crap.  These are some of the most messed up, sordid people in the world and they’re the ones running it?  Seems about right.

Considering the absolutely shit show that is our country right now I almost wish for the days of George W. Bush’s regime.  Not that I ever thought the guy was a good President.  But for Christ’s sake at least the guy was entertaining.   Right now there’s absolutely nothing entertaining about the White House.

Hell there’s not much to be entertained by in this country.  People are out of work.  People are scared.  People are pissed.  And it ain’t gonna get any better for a very long time.  While I still think things can turn around even I know it’s gonna be potentially decades before this country is back on track.

They make promises they can’t keep.  They do dirty under the deal tables.  They cheat on their spouses.  They do whatever they have to do to get into the good graces of the public, no matter what the consequence.  Yes, this is the world of politics.   It’s a dirty world.  A sordid underground of power, wealth, and opposing opinions.

It’s not about us.  It’s about them and the influence they can exert.  But as young people we are not taught this.  We are taught that we’re in a democracy.  That we actually can make a difference.  I’m afraid that notion left me some time ago.
