Jordan Brand has just released a new, start-studded tribute video for Derek Jeter today, and I’ve got to say, I still have goosebumps from watching. The video features cameos from all sorts of celebrities, such as former New York mayor Rudy Gulianni, some of Derek Jeter’s former teammates like Mariano Rivera and Andy Petitte, Jeter’s former manager, Joe Torre, and even the man behind the brand himself, Michael Jordan.
What makes this ad so great is just how simple it is. There’s no big, overwrought speeches, or loud, over-the-top music. No, instead Jordan keeps the action simple, with each of the sports stars or celebrities in the video, starting with Boston Red Sox pitcher, Jon Lester, tipping their cap to Derek Jeter, while a powerful, emotional piano score plays in the background.
By showing so many different people from around the country, from NYC cops to other star athletes to even some reluctant but respectful Red Sox fans, Jordan Brand truly how much Derek Jeter means to not just the New York Yankees but the game of baseball as a whole. I’m a Phillies fan, who absolutely cannot stand either New York team, both the Yankees and the Mets, but I have loved having the opportunity to watch a player as talented as Derek Jeter get to play throughout my life, even when he was playing against my team.
Check out the moving tribute to Jeter for yourself below and let us know what you think about the ad and the baseball legacy of Derek Jeter, as he prepares for his final MLB All-Star game tomorrow.
