The Ten Biggest Cycling Races in the World

National Cyclo-Cross Championships In Derby

Volta a Catalunya

Volta a Catalunya is another cycling race held in Spain (like Vuelta a Espana, although one less of a major scale). Since the Volta a Catalunya began in 1911, that makes it the fourth oldest cycling race in the world, and throughout its history, it has changed its position on the cycling calendar very often. It initially took place after the Giro d’ Italia and was seen as preparation for the Tour de France, but then it was changed to the same time as the Giro, making an alternate choice for those who did not want to compete in the bigger competition – that did not work out so well. Now, the Volta has been moved to March and is one of the 28 races that make up the UCI World Ranking calendar. The winner of the race receives a white and green striped jersey.
