Some people think that competitive eaters participate in these contests for the fame or to have their picture on the wall of some restaurant or simply because they love food that much. None of those is a big motivator, however. It’s all about the money. Competitive eaters earn an estimated $200,000 over the course of the 200 IFOCE events per yer, and the amount of winnings is only supposed to increase in the years to come. Takeru Kobayashi has taken home $150,000 in a year simply from eating.
