A ton of training goes into these competitions 

Unfortunately, as much as I love eating wings, I can just suddenly wake up and be the champion of the Philadelphia Wing Bowl. There’s a lot of hard practice and training that goes into doing well at these competitive eating competitions. Many competitors strengthen their jaws (some do this by chewing over 20 pieces of gum at a time), expand their stomachs, and even perfect the art of swallowing (something called peristalsis, where one increases the squeezing movement of his or her esophagus).
