Have you ever leaned in to kiss a girl and then embarrassingly gotten rejected by her? Now imagine that not just happening in a public place, but the whole incident actually being captured on video that could then be seen by millions on TV and the internet – sounds pretty awful, right? Well, that’s exactly what happened to cyclist Vincenzo Nibali, who won stage two of the Tour de France only to get denied a kiss by a Tour de France model right on stage at the event.
What I love about this video (aside from the cringe-inducing humor of it all) is that Nibali reacts just like any dude would. His face goes from that first moment of “This sucks” to one of defeat, before he attempts to play it off cool with the classic neck scratch. You can also see the awkward face of the model as she turns to grab flowers for the next winner, as her smile disappears and she tries to go back to “business as usual.”
It’s pretty obvious from watching the video (which is embedded below for everyone) that Nibali misread a classic hug embrace and mistook it for a kiss, which I totally get, especially with this Tour de France model – the girl’s straight up gorgeous. However, this just goes to show that even if you are a star athlete, whether you can hit the farthest home run in the world or throw the longest touchdown pass or ride a bike better than anyone else on the planet, you can still mess up when it comes to women. They are one “sport” that men will never be able to figure out.
