Shana, a wolf and German shepherd mix, saved her owners, Norman and Eve Fertig (both 81), from freezing to death outside on a bitterly cold fall night in upstate New York back in 2006. The Fertigs were outside, taking care of injured animals in their forested sanctuary, when a huge storm started and trapped them outside. Fortunately, Shana was able to use her mouth and paws to dig a path beneath the fallen trees and after only a few hours, burrow her way to the other side. Shana put Mrs. Fertig on her back and rescued Mr. Fertig by pulling him as he held onto her legs.
