When I found out that The Great Bambino grew up in an orphanage, I knew he had to crack this list of celebrities you didn’t know were adopted. While Ruth was raised by his parents for the first several years of his life, at the age of seven, he was spent to St. Mary’s Industrial School for Boys, an orphanage and reformatory. The St. Mary’s Industrial School’s strict rules were instrumental in temporarily straightening out Babe Ruth’s behavior, which included running the streets, skipping school, and drinking beer. The Xaverian Brothers who ran the school did a good job of keeping Ruth in line.
