4. Mystic River
Many call this Eastwood’s best film, and it would be hard to argue with it. Mystic River is a dark, depressing movie, but it’s also incredibly beautiful and poignant in its tragedy. Eastwood is able to make this gritty, crime-riddled world populated with characters that we can still care about as they perform actions that are, at best, morally gray, in the face of impossible circumstances. There are so many standout scenes in this film and everything from the look of the movie to the actors’ performances to the shot selection is nearly perfect. Making this list has made me want to go and rewatch it right now.
