5. Pale Rider
Eastwood knows his Westerns (just look at the “Man with No Name” trilogy or his own Unforgiven, which will show up later on this list). That’s why Pale Rider, which doesn’t really do anything to reinvent the genre, is so good. Eastwood is a director that excels at telling many different types of stories, but the best ones that he tells come from a deep sense of understanding and of really “being there.” While Eastwood himself was obviously never in the Wild West, his exposure to Sergio Leon and the sheer amount of Westerns he’s been a part of made him the perfect storyteller for Pale Rider.
