The Most Popular Songs About New York

15th Annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards - Arrivals

“Coney Island” – Death Cab For Cutie

While these may not be considered by many to be one of the most “popular songs” about New York, I know enough people in my life, both from and outside of the city, that love this song a great deal. “Coney Island” is less of a celebratory song about New York and more of a glimpse into the past, as a man walks around and sees that everything is closed but can’t help from smiling because he can “hear the Atlantic echo back roller coaster screams of summers’ past.” At least that’s my interpretation of the song, and it’s the simplicity of the music, lyrics, (there aren’t very many at all), and Ben Gibbard’s voice that make this song so hauntingly beautiful, that make it stick with you long after you’ve listened.
