The Most Popular Songs About New York

JAY Z And Samsung Celebrate The Release Of Magna Carta Holy Grail, Available Now For Samsung Galaxy Owners - Arrivals

“Empire State of Mind” – Jay Z & Alicia Keys

Oh man. There’s no song I hated more in the fall of 2009 than this one. Played at every single commercial break during the World Series between the Yankees and the Phillies. It was tough to swallow. There’s no denying the massive popularity of this Jay Z/Alicia Keys collaboration. Some people claim that it’s the best song about New York that’s out there. While I certainly wouldn’t go that far (the two songs I’ve already talked about would go way before this one on my NYC playlist), there’s no denying that “Empire State of Mind” is the New York anthem for this generation, and with its solid beat and that amazingly sung refrain, courtesy of Alicia Keys, it’s easy to understand why.
