The Most Popular Songs About New York

2013 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Music Festival - Day 2

“New York State of Mind” – Billy Joel

To me, when I think of New York, I think of Mr. Billy Joel, and no Billy Joel song is simply more “New York” than “New York State of Mind.” This was originally never of Billy Joel’s most popular songs, but it’s become a fan favorite over the years that Joel has consistently played at concerts, no matter where across the globe the he is. “New York State of Mind” was inspired by Joel’s return to the East Coast after being in Los Angeles for three years. It’s about reclaiming that original state of self that you thought you may have lost while away, but it never really leaves you.
