Imagine Being the Guy That Scored the “Goal of the Century” at the World Cup

The 2014 World Cup kicks off today – naturally there is going to be some posting about the world’s biggest sporting event. There were so many directions this post could have gone. It could have been Zinedine Zidane’s ‘Headbutt Heard ‘Round the World’, it could have been ‘Hot Chicks of the World Cup’ (probably will do that anyway at some point), but instead we went with Diego Maradona’s ‘Goal of the Century’.

The setting was the 1986 World Cup quarterfinal between Argentina and England. Just four minutes after the ‘Hand of God’ shananigans, Maradona found himself with the ball deep inside his own half. He then proceeded to possess the ball down the pitch for about 70 yards shaking numerous English defenders before slotting home an incredible goal. Given the situation and the sheer brilliance of the goal – it’s been tabbed the ‘Goal of the Century’.

That’s all well and good – but now just imagine being the guy who scored the ‘Goal of the Century’ during the World Cup? Biggest sporting event in the world, biggest goal ever – I mean it really doesn’t get any better than that does it? We’re talking money, pick of the litter with women and hundreds of other perks we don’t want to know about. It’s pretty hard to understate the impact that this single event could have on an anybody’s life! Great goal.
