4. Stan Van Gundy. From the Miami Heat to the Orlando Magic, 2007
Not many people remember that former NBA head coach Stan Van Gundy actually got his start as the lead man for the Miami Heat, coaching the team to the Eastern Conference Finals in his first year of 2005. After some speculation the following season about Pat Riley wanting to return to the bench, though, SVG resigned abruptly, before seeing the team he started the season coaching, go on to win an NBA title. In the summer of 2007, the Orlando Magic believed Stan was their man, hiring him even though he was still under contract with Miami—meaning the Magic would surrender a few draft picks and cash for the Heat to relieve him of his contract.
