Ten Hits with Song Meanings You Never Expected

Beastie Boys

“(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (to Party)” – Beastie Boys

“(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (to Party)” is the quintessential pump-up song for any type of shindig. People forget most of the words to the verses (because who can remember all those, right?) and come together to scream the refrain out loud together. Everyone feels alive and ready for what the night holds. In actuality, though, the song is actually a parody of the “party hard” lifestyle and the many 80s songs that encouraged it, but that still won’t stop 15-year-old kids who think listening and singing to this makes them “hardcore” from misinterpreting the song for decades and decades to come.
