Ten Hits with Song Meanings You Never Expected

Third Eye Blind

“Semi-Charmed Life” – Third Eye Blind

I personally never thought that “Semi-Charmed Life,” the Third Eye Blind hit that dominated the 1990s, was about consumerism but apparently that’s what the general consensus had been about the song for a while. I always thought “Semi-Charmed Life” dealt with much darker themes, and interestingly enough, it turns out it does, as the song is actually about a drug addicts eventual downfall into using crystal meth and the desperate means that he goes to in order to find that “something else.” Perhaps one of the main reasons that there is so much confusion over the meaning of the song is because of its radio edits. On the radio, almost an entire minute of the song was originally cut out in order to make it a more “playable single.”
