“Born in the U.S.A.” – Bruce Springsteen
Many people think “Born in the U.S.A.” is this stirring patriotic song that needs to be played at an ear-splitting volume on the Fourth of July. Even Ronald Reagan’s staff attempted to acquire the song so that they could use it for his re-election campaign back in ’80s. Yet despite how pro-American the sound or spirit of the song may seem, it’s actually quite the opposite. “Born in the U.S.A.” follows the story of young, working class guy who goes to fight in Vietnam after getting into too much trouble back home. When he returns from the war, he can’t find work and the members of his community essentially shun him. America the beautiful, indeed.
