Ten Hits with Song Meanings You Never Expected

The Knack

“My Sharona” – The Knack

“My Sharona” is pretty obviously about a guy who really, really wants to be with a girl. He worships her. He lusts for her. He just wants a little bit of here time. Creepily, however, “My Sharona” isn’t about a girl that was exactly age-appropriate for The Knack. The song was inspired the band’s drummer, Doug Fieger, and his relationship with Sharona Alperin, a guy that was nine years younger than him (they first got together when Fieger was 25 and Alperin was only 16). The two of them dated for four years.
