Pee-Wee Herman Forever Changed The Song ‘Tequila’ by The Champs

A

If you grew up in the late 80s and early 90s than you most likely watched Pee Wee’s Playhouse. If you didn’t you still may have caught Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. If you were a little late to the party there was still a chance for you to catch Big Top Pee Wee. Let’s face it – Pee Wee Herman had a Derek Jeter-like run for a few years. It was so dominant he could make songs that no one would have ever heard, ever, famous.

Cue ‘Tequila’ by The Champs. First, the song isn’t that bad. In fact, it’s a catchy little tune that has been a getting some serious burn since the late 1950′s. So to say Pee Wee Herman made the song famous is not accurate.. However, to say Pee Wee Herman changed the song for many forever is dead on. I will never, ever be able to listen to this song again without thinking about Pee Wee dominating the bar in white shoes from his classic movie.

When you create music you want people to enjoy it. You want it to become popular. What you don’t want is it to be forever associated with Pee Wee Herman – I don’t care who you are…. wait a minute.. Pee Wee is awesome, of course you do.
