Curt Schilling

Two words put Curt Schilling on this list: “bloody sock.” Back in Game 6 of the 2004 ALCS against the Yankees, Schilling pitched on his injured, bloodied ankle to help ensure that there would be a game seven for the Red Sox. Schilling ending up winning Game 6 for the Sox (who then won Game 7 and went on to win the World Series that year, breaking the curse of Babe Ruth), forever enshrining both himself and his sock into Boston baseball lore.
