There are plenty of Hall of Fame athletes who have never even come close to winning a world championship.
So when we were talking to our buddy on the phone a few days ago debating who was the best without a ring, it got us thinking about some of the guys who do have one—but probably shouldn’t.
That’s why we put this list together, because while these athletes played a small role in winning a title with their teams, it’s still a little frustrating to know they have something a few all-time greats don’t.
5. D.J. Mbenga, NBA
This dude averaged less than a bucket over the course of his entire career, yet still owns two NBA rings thanks to being on a team with Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol in 2009 and 2010.
The guy does speak five languages and is heavily involved in charitable work, so he’s proven to be a good dude, but that doesn’t mean he’s worthy of owning more diamonds for his finger than Charles Barkley, John Stockton, Karl Malone or Patrick Ewing.
