In case you missed it from a few weeks ago, Steve Horgan went from being just a normal, Boston police officer to someone who was instantly recognized and posing with the owner of the Red So, John Henry.
Did Horgan do something courageous that brought the community together, or stop a bunch of people who were planning to burn down the beloved Fenway Park?
Nope. He simply celebrated a grand slam hit by Boston’s David Ortiz, being the unknowing subject of a now famous picture.
That got us thinking about some of the other normal sports fans who became sensations overnight for ding nearly next to nothing, so here are a few of some people you might just be familiar with.
6. Rollen Stewart
It’s pretty funny to think that this whacky looking guy is the reason fans still occasionally hold up those “John 3:16″ signs at sporting events, but he was the one who started it all.
After becoming a born-again Christian, Stewart just wanted to help get the word out, which is where his idea to make a sign for fans to see came from.
From major sporting events like the Olympics and the Super Bowl, to just normal regular season games, he always found a way to get on TV for all to see, thus making himself a mini-celebrity.
