As we told you yesterday when we gave you our AL MVP predictions, it’s never too early to talk about baseball awards season.
So as we wrap up the last quarter of the season, here are the guys we really think have the best chance at stealing a wide-open NL MVP raceâ€”and it should only get even more exciting as the finish line becomes clearer and these guys help determine if their teams are playoff bound or not.
6. Allen Craig – Cardinals
You might be wondering why a guy with just 12 homers is sitting in our top-6 candidates, right?
But dig a little further than just the power numbers and you’ll find a hell of a consistent player.
Sitting third in the NL with 90 RBI, while batting .311 (putting him in the top-10), Craig has come through in the clutch for the second-place Cardinals, helping them almost certainly locking up a playoff berth byway of winning the division or grabbing a wild card spot.
