Cardboard’s cheap, recyclable, and can be used for various reasons. So when your parents stop by and see that your apartment’s not what it was in the Craigslist ad, and see that your dresser and nightstand are made from the same boxes you used to move your stuff out of their house, just remember to thank them for the boxes.

So next time your friends ask to dumpster dive with them to score a few boxes so they can pack away some stuff in storage, remind them that although someone else may have tossed that “piece of trash,” you see it as a new kitchen table.
