How to Set Your Style

Published by at 9:00 am under Editorial

When it comes to style, every guy thinks they have it all figured out. They piece together something that seems halfway decent, freshen up, and every once in awhile give themselves a peek, just to make sure they’re still looking alright.

Problem is, most dudes have zero clue what they’re actually doing. While it may seem cool to pull off what your favorite athlete rocks it in his postgame interview, we have a newsflash: It’s not.

We’re all for expressing yourself, but that’s the problem, you have to work with what you’ve got, and we’re guessing the swag a 6’8″, jacked basketball player has, isn’t exactly the same as your flabby ass does.

To help you with that, we want to give you some tips on the appropriate way of setting your style. It should help you keep it unique, while actually showing people you have a clue what’s going on.

Show Some Confidence

With anything you put on, you need to absolutely own it. We may have bashed you for not knowing what you’re doing, but that’s nothing compared to throwing on something that you’re worried is actually getting people to look at you the wrong way. If you’re going to wear a shirt that’s two sizes too big, with jeans that look like they belong at a skatepark, than the least you can do is own it.

Know What Works

Just like a fat chick who definitely shouldn’t be wearing those jeans, you need to remember what fits and forms go with your body type. If you’re a little bigger and shopping for an oxford, why the hell would you try to squeeze into the biggest Extra Slim shirt? You want to look good, but you want to be comfortable, so it’s important to know that not one look can’t always work for everyone.

Don’t Break the Bank

You should never have to pay a fortune to look good. If you’re doing that, you’ve pretty much waved the white flag of fashion. You’re not in high school anymore, so no one gives a damn what the label on the inside of the shirt says. If there’s a cardigan that looks like it can go with some stuff you’ve got in your closet, scoop it up and forget that you only spent ten bucks on it.

Have More Than One Look

Guys with ultimate style are those that can pull off any look. You don’t need to have a face that’s handsome or have chiseled abs to pull this off, you just need to think outside the box, and try different things. One day you might be feeling a tie, while you go all skaterboy the next; just hit it bro. Get after it, and just make sure you’re not trying too hard.

Break The Trends

Just like a haircut, some things just look better on others than they do on you. It’s not a knock, it’s just common sense. While some dudes get their fashion sense from TV, mags, or online, you should know exactly what you like, and roll with it. The best dressed guys are those that don’t follow the things everyone else is doing.

Accessorize

Anyone can just toss on a pocket tee and a pair of jeans, but it’s the guy who adds a bracelet, hat, and shades that makes it all work together. Your outfit is a blank canvas, so don’t just throw a couple colors on it and think it’s finished, actually think about what you want to have it say. That includes your shoes. In some cases, that’s the most important piece of an entire outfit.
