Seven of the Most Rewatchable TV Sitcoms of All Time

Published by at 7:20 am under Editorial,Entertainment

It’s too hard to tell whether the new crop of television shows that we all watch will be “rewatchable.”   I mean I guess I could watch Always Sunny in Philadelphia and not really get tired of it.  But when I refer to rewatchable I’m talking about shows where you can see every single episode at least 5 times.

And that’s not an easy task.   You know, like when you see one of your favorite shows is in syndication and whenever it’s on you always leave it on.  To me that’s pretty powerful and not many shows have that quality.

Here are what I consider to be the most rewatchable shows of all time….

It’s really hard to get tired of good old Sam Malone and his crew down at Cheers.    It was great with Coach and Diane and I personally think even better with Woody and Rebecca.   The show never, ever lost a step.   Making Frasier more prevalent was great too.   Sure the last season wasn’t the best but I can honestly say I’d watch the reruns over most of television today.

The Cosby Show

With the exception of the final season and just about everything with Olivia and Rudy being older, I absolutely loved The Cosby Show.   It was so original and so funny.   It’s tough to get tired of Heathcliff Huxtable.  The show brought great culture, parental lessons, and a whole lot of comedy.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen every episode of this show at least 10 times and I can’t honestly say that I’d watch them all another ten times.   It’s like you pick up on something new every single time an old episode appears.  It’s truly miraculous.

The Wonder Years

OK, when Kevin gets older the show kind of sucked.  But the first 3-4 seasons were absolutely stellar.    It so brought all of us back to what it was like to be in school and like girls and have problems and be in class and all that fun stuff.  Yes I know that was a run on sentence.

(Grumble) Kids these days! I guess y’all were born too late.

You forgot some of the most “rewatchable” sitcoms of all time, including possibly the very most enjoyably rewatchable of them all, “I Dream of Jeannie.” Every episode is an unmitigated delight!

Then there’s the short-lived “Police Squad.” What a treat! With only six episodes made, I guess it must be rewatchable or it would have faded into oblivion. Never has so short-lived a program spawned more full-length movies (the three “Naked Gun” movies).

(I know OJ didn’t do it. Nordberg would NEVER do anything like that!)

And of course there’s Mel Brooks’ and Buck Henry’s “Get Smart,” as big a treat today as it was when it was new.

And who could forget the first and second Bob Newhart efforts, “The Bob Newhart Show” and “Newhart,” the latter of which had the greatest finale of any show ever.

Admittedly this is all a matter of taste, but leaving these great and timeless sitcoms out of such a list is definitely an intolerable omission.

Third Rock From the Sun, Taxi, Cheers, Soap, Married With Children, All in the Family and , of course, The Simpsons make my list

The Cosby show SUCKED after the second season. Nearly every show was a ‘look how dumb and evil men are’ story.
When that crap comes on in reruns, I go read a book or listen to some music!!
