This post is a pretty sweet piece written by my boy Chris over at one of our other sites Unathletic. I’ve decided to share it with all of you today.
When Chris said “Our Generation”, he was talking about sports fans in their mid-twenties to early thirties.  The idea behind this article is simple. Chris was having a conversation with a colleague about the sports teams he roots for, and he always mentioned that he was extremely blessed to be growing up during one of their amazing runs. Those days have long since passed.
I’m sure some of you know what we’re talking about here.  You’ve been a part of a period of 4-5 years when your team was winning multiple championships and always making it to the dance. They are the best times to be a fan, but as we all know it’s not all roses all the time.
Here are some of the best championship runs of our generation…..
5. The New England Patriots (2002-2005)
The Patriots went on a nice run where they won 3 Super Bowls in 4 years. They’ve been successful ever since then, but the 3 Super Bowls in 4 years is a helluva nice run. I give the Pats the nod over the Dallas Cowboys, who also won 3 out of 4 between ’93 and ’96, because the Patriots have been back to a Super Bowl since that run, and have had great regular seasons.
4. Los Angeles Lakers (2000-2010)
The Lakers are the team of the decade. Think about this…5 titles in ten years. A run of three straight, then two straight. Oh, and they made the Finals in two other years. That’s 7 championship appearances in 10 years. Ridiculous. The three straight titles in the early part of this century was a great marriage between Shaq and Kobe:)
3. Edmonton Oilers (1984-1990)
If the Lakers are the team of the most recent decade, then the Oilers are the team of the ’80′s. This is dating back to the early part of “our generation”, but it counts. The Oilers won 5 Stanley Cups in 7 Years. That includes ’84, ’85, ’87, ’88, and ’90. Then Gretzky was shipped out of town. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that the Islanders won 4 straight to start this decade, BUT the Gretzky-led Oilers get the nod.
2. Manchester United (1992-Present)
Liverpool owned the ’80′s, Manchester United has owned the EPL ever since. You want to talk about a long-term run, Manchester United have won 12 EPL Titles since 1992. They’ve been runner-up 4 times. That means 16 out of 19 years your team was in the dance. Amazing run.
