Why Thanksgiving is the Best Holiday of the Year

Published by at 7:21 am under Editorial

If there’s one holiday I look forward to every year it’s Thanksgiving.  Aside from alternating families each year, there’s very little not to like about Thanksgiving.   In fact I will argue that it’s the best holiday of the year.

Sure there’s Christmas and New Year’s, but I just don’t think they compare to Thanksgiving.

And here are five reasons why I think it’s the best holiday….

There’s no Religion Involved

It’s one of the few universal holidays in the United States.  I mean unless you’re a Native Indian then you kind of have to like and appreciate Thanksgiving.  You don’t have to worry about going to temple or church.   We, as Americans are supposed to be happy that we have what we have.   And we don’t have to worry about God or Jesus or any of that crap for a day.   We can just enjoy stuffing ourselves until we fall asleep.

Sure It’s About Thanks, But it’s About Food

Seriously, what other holiday is about food as much as Thanksgiving?  And how awesome is that?  Your number one concern on this day is eating as much as you can.   It’s not about getting a present or giving a present or remembering to buy a card.  It’s about eating.  Period.  And that my friends, kicks ass.

You have to be kidding!!?? “Thanksgiving” implies being thankful. Who precisely do you think we are to be thankful to if not God? What great irony that you, along with many, many others, have the very mindset that Abraham Lincoln cites in his Proclamation where he established Thanksgiving as a “National and fixed Union Festival” : http://is.gd/UvWETp

By the President of the United States of America.

    A Proclamation.

The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed
***that we are prone to forget the source from which they come***,
others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God. . . .

Will those who have no concern for the God of heaven in this life be surprised when they stand before Him one day and He chooses to have nothing to do with them?

We’ll all ignore the near genocide of the native peoples of this country while we jam food into our mouths. Totally the best holiday. Pass the blankets!

Ahem… you obviously have never been the one cooking the Thanksgiving dinners. Stress abounds in the kitchen, while the family gets to watch the parade. Not fun.
