There are many times in a person’s life when they sit down and think for a while.  It could be the most successful person in the world or the most miserable. It’s in our nature to think of how we can make our lives better.
Usually these times of thought follow some kind of moment that made us think.  Perhaps a great scene in a movie. Or maybe just seeing a new baby.  Other times? Perhaps it’s hearing words of wisdom and saying to yourself “I really have to live this way.”
Unfortunately these thoughts are only short lived and these ways of living life continue to be “thoughts” and not real practice.  Here are some examples of “Words to live by” that we don’t pay enough attention to…..
Live today like it’s your last day (or like there’s no tomorrow)
If we really lived our lives like there were no tomorrow most of us would be in a pretty bad place.  Meaning do you realize how much adultery would happen? How much gambling would go on? Etc etc.? It’s understandable that we should live our lives to the “fullest” each day but clearly living like there’s no tomorrow has no practicality in life.
It’s better to give than to receive
Oh I wish this were true.  There are some people in life who kind of live this way but I think for the most of America, we’re a selfish society that would much rather be handed things than to give things out.  This generation is one of entitlement and the though of actually contributing sickens most people.
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference
One of the most famous quotes of all time. It’s the beginning to the serenity prayer that alcoholics follow in the step program. Man, if only all of us were able to control ourselves in this way. I for one freak out about tons of things that are out of my control. If only I could just let go of that, life would be way more tolerable.
When you blame others, you give up your power to change
Yeah but isn’t it so easy to blame others and not yourself? It’s the American way!
He who knows that enough is enough will always have enough
Yeah, tell that to every millionaire in this country. Tell that to anyone that has a 60 inch TV or 3 summer houses or anyone that’s overweight.  Do you realize how few people are fully happy with what they have?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Do you really believe that?
