It’s that time of year again. People are buzzing about the Oscars. I think I’ve expressed my utter distaste for this particular award show before but in case you aren’t aware of it I’m really not a fan of an event that simply showcases celebrities being proud of their own accomplishments.  It’s not that I’m against cinema or anything, I just don’t think we need this giant spectacle when these folks are already praised on a daily basis.
In any event, I sure as hell hope we see some drunken performances. That would at least make the show tolerable.
Here are six classic drunken award show moments…..
Mariah Carey – People’s Choice Awards 2010
Mariah Carey showed us how crunk a diva can get while intoxicated at the People’s Choice Awards on January 6, 2010. She won an award at the Palm Springs Film Festival (where she also delivered a drunken spiel) and topped it all off with a martini.
Joan Rivers – 2006 Logies Awards
Joan Rivers delivered her most insulting jokes under the influence at Australia’s 2006 Logies Awards. From Tom Cruise to Mel Gibson to, really, the entire auditorium, nobody was safe from her jabs that night. Personally I’ve never seen Joan this awesome before. She should drink way more often.
Anna Nicole Smith – 2004 AMA Awards
This video is almost kind of sad in a way because it was most certainly a precursor to her death. However, when you’re talking all time most drunk or under the influence award show appearances this one clearly ranks up there.
Dan Castellenata 2005 ITV Comedy Awards
Dan Castellaneta delivered every Simpsons fanatic’s dream speech at the 2005 ITV Comedy Awards. With the help of some booze, he accepted his award in full Homer Simpson character.
Elizabeth Taylor 2001 Golden Globes
The video isn’t of the highest quality but clearly Elizabeth isn’t either.  Don’t these people feel kind of embarrassed to look this dumb on television? I guess not.
Britney Spears 2007 VMA’s
Britney Spears Live at the 2007 Video Music Awards was a new level of sad for Britney. Her drunken performance here had her stumbling, lip syncing a laugh, and covering her mouth with little to no enthusiasm and had her back-up dancers acting more like crutches than back up dancers. Awful.
